I was back working with the team at Homebrewtique this week, capturing lifestyle images of people making and enjoying their beer. Homebrewtique is represented on NotOnTheHighStreet so their imagery they use has to comply with the umbrella brand guidelines. It was really interesting to find out that the NotOnTheHighStreet image strategy has changed, originally requiring classic product shots, they have repositioned themselves to be about capturing people experiencing and enjoying products so customers can imagine themselves using them. What excited me about this is that’s what I have been saying to all my clients for ages, infusing your imagery with real people brings the subject to life and makes such a compelling statement.

We used 2 locations, the first was a beautiful kitchen diner with an industrial feel, where we were able to shoot several set ups showing stages of the homebrewing process and entertaining with friends.

The second location was outside in the garden capturing the feeling of a summer’s BBQ to promote 2 new recipe packs, a tasty beer ketchup and hops mayonnaise.

You can see more of my work with Homebrewtique here.

I love working with artisans and designer makers, there is something so captivating about observing a skilled craftsman at work and the passion they bring to their craft. I recently spent the day in London with artisan jeweller Anna Wales, filming her day-to-day work to show the intricate processes that go into making one of her delicate, tactile pieces. It was a joy to observe her deeply absorbed in her work, transforming sheets of metal into the beautiful, organic shapes that she designs to stimulate your sense of touch.

I also took some stills and moving photos to demonstrate the tactility of her jewellery, flowing and moving with the body.

As someone who has always had an interest in the arts and as a keen amateur crafter, being commissioned to photograph and film a skilled artisan maker is nothing short of exciting! Falling squarely into this category is the weaver Claire Whelan, working from a studio at Cockpit Arts that she acquired after being awarded the Clothworkers Foundation Award in 2017/2018, she brings wonderfully rich combinations of pattern and colour to her gender neutral collections.

To sit alongside the film I also captured a series of photos around the studio and showcasing her beautiful textiles.

I was really excited to get to work with Homebrewtique, a local company that provides kits and recipes for brewing your own beer, I was immediately interested as I just loved the name … then I sampled the beer and I was sold! The idea was to create a clear look for the brand that paid tribute in equal parts to the wholesome, hearty image of homebrewing and the high quality products that the company sources. I did this by using rich colours and homely props and real home cooked food … I confess to having had a nibble once we finished the photos!

As well as creating seasonal banners, I used the same look to capture the different products, recipe packs and maker kits to give the brand a strong homogenous look.

If you are thinking of trying your hand at brewing your own beer, you definitely need to take at look at Homebrewtique, everything you need is in one place and the recipes are delicious.
